The UAE has officially declared that Eid Al Adha 2025 will begin on Friday, June 6, after the crescent moon of Dhu Al Hijjah was sighted on Tuesday evening, May 27. This means Wednesday, May 28 is the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah in the Islamic year 1446. Furthermore, Arafat Day will be observed on Thursday, June 5, just one day prior to the Eid celebrations.
The announcement was made by the Presidential Court, following confirmation from moon-sighting committees. As expected, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also reported a successful sighting earlier in the evening, thereby aligning the region’s Islamic calendar dates.
The UAE leadership extended their heartfelt congratulations to citizens, residents, and the wider Muslim world. In its statement, the Presidential Court shared blessings with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the Supreme Council Members.
The court also wished peace, joy, and prosperity to the people of the UAE and the global Muslim community as the country prepares to mark this important religious occasion.
Significance of Eid Al Adha and Arafat Day
Eid Al Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic festivals. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. Celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah, the holiday also marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Muslims across the world observe Eid by gathering for special prayers, exchanging greetings, sharing meals, and offering charitable donations. Though customs may differ across countries, the spirit of sacrifice, generosity, and community remains universal.
Meanwhile, Arafat Day observed on the ninth of Dhu Al Hijjah holds great spiritual importance. It marks the second and most crucial day of the Hajj, when pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat to pray and reflect. For Muslims not on pilgrimage, it is a highly recommended day of fasting and spiritual renewal.
Anticipation Builds for Holiday and Celebrations
With a long weekend confirmed, families across the UAE are preparing for festive activities, travel, and gatherings. Notably, this year’s Eid Al Adha is expected to draw high interest in regional and international travel, as well as retail and hospitality sectors.
As the festival approaches, many will engage in acts of charity and reflect on its deeper meanings. Importantly, the observance of Eid fosters unity and spiritual reflection, reaffirming values that transcend borders and traditions.
