Miral Unveils Comprehensive Sustainability Strategy to Lead Green Tourism in Abu Dhabi
Miral, a leading developer of immersive destinations and experiences in Abu Dhabi, has launched a far-reaching Sustainability Strategy, reaffirming its commitment to advancing environmental and social responsibility. The initiative aims to position Miral as a regional leader in sustainable leisure, entertainment, and tourism (LET) experiences by 2030.
Building on its longstanding sustainable practices, the strategy highlights Miral’s dedication to creating a brighter future while aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 vision. Group CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi emphasized, “This strategy places sustainability at the core of our operations, ensuring responsible growth and innovation. It reflects our commitment to contributing to the UAE’s climate goals and driving sustainable tourism in Abu Dhabi.”
Strategic Objectives
Miral’s Sustainability Strategy outlines three core objectives:
- Developing the most sustainable LET experiences in the region.
- Operating LET experiences with the highest sustainability standards.
- Positioning its destinations as benchmarks for sustainability.
To achieve these goals, the strategy is built on four key pillars:
1. Experiences for a Better World
Miral aims to integrate educational and cultural elements into its offerings, such as Qasr Al Watan and Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center, fostering awareness of critical social and environmental issues.
2. Decarbonization and Resource Management
Miral has committed to reducing its carbon footprint by 2030, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 initiative. Measures include transitioning to renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, implementing water conservation strategies, and striving for zero waste to landfill.
3. People-Centered Initiatives
The strategy emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and professional growth for employees, while ensuring high standards for worker welfare, safe conditions, and fair treatment.
4. Sustainable Development
Miral’s efforts extend to sustainable supply chain practices, eco-friendly mobility options, and fostering green tourism through collaboration with stakeholders.
Ongoing and Upcoming Initiatives
Miral has already demonstrated its commitment through projects such as the UAE’s largest solar rooftop installation at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, initiatives at SeaWorld Yas Island, and innovative efforts like water-from-air systems at Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island.
Looking ahead, the strategy outlines further actions, including:
- Establishing Sustainable Design Guidelines for all new projects.
- Increasing carbon efficiency across assets by 3% annually.
- Transitioning to 100% treated wastewater use by 2030.
- Reducing single-use plastics and promoting green mobility solutions.
Miral’s Sustainability Strategy represents a decisive step towards a greener, more sustainable future for Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector, fully aligned with the UAE’s climate ambitions.
