Google Unveils Gemini Spark Autonomous AI Agent

Google Gemini Spark AI presentation

Google introduced Gemini Spark at Google I/O 2026, expanding Gemini from a conversational assistant into a cloud-based autonomous AI agent. The new system runs continuously on dedicated virtual machines inside Google Cloud, allowing it to perform tasks even when users’ devices remain offline.

Gemini Spark operates on the Gemini 3.5 Flash model and Google’s Antigravity 2.0 agent platform. As a result, the system can manage long-running and multi-step workflows without constant user interaction.

The platform handles recurring financial reviews, summarizes long email conversations, and prepares reports from meeting notes inside Google Docs. Additionally, Spark connects workflows across multiple applications to automate broader productivity tasks.

Native Integrations and Expanding Ecosystem

Google integrated Spark directly with Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Slides. Furthermore, the platform connects with third-party services including Canva, OpenTable, and Instacart. The company also plans broader connectivity support through the Model Context Protocol.

Spark requires user approval before completing sensitive actions such as purchases or outbound communications. Meanwhile, Google positioned the platform as a fully opt-in system focused on controlled automation.

The company started rolling out Spark to trusted testers this week. Moreover, Google plans to launch a beta version for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States next week. Later this summer, the company intends to integrate Spark into the Gemini desktop app, enabling access to local files and desktop workflows.

Google Accelerates Agentic AI Strategy

The Spark launch arrived alongside several major announcements at Google I/O 2026. Google also introduced Gemini Omni, a multimodal generation model, and Gemini 3.5 Flash, which focuses on faster and more efficient AI performance.

Additionally, Google reported significant growth across its AI ecosystem. The company now processes more than 3.2 quadrillion tokens monthly across its AI services, while the Gemini app has surpassed 900 million monthly active users.

Google’s infrastructure investments also continue to rise sharply. The company expects annual capital expenditures between $180 billion and $190 billion this year as it expands its long-term AI infrastructure and agentic computing capabilities.
