Dubai Police Hosts Deepfake Dialogue to Strengthen Cybercrime Readiness

Police analyzing deepfake digital evidence

Dubai Police organized a virtual “Future Dialogue” focused on deepfake technologies to address emerging digital threats. Notably, the session aimed to assess risks that could affect policing, forensic science, and criminal investigations.

Moreover, the event was led by the Future Foresight Centre as part of a broader strategy to strengthen institutional readiness. At the same time, it sought to expand specialized expertise in advanced technology fields. Consequently, authorities are taking proactive steps to prepare for increasingly complex digital risks.

Globally, concerns continue to grow over the misuse of artificial intelligence tools. For instance, deepfake technology can create highly convincing fake audio, video, and images. As a result, criminals can exploit these tools for fraud, impersonation, extortion, and disinformation.

Strengthening Capabilities and Expertise

Dr Brigadier Hamdan Al Ghassia, Director of the Future Foresight Centre at Dubai Police, said the dialogue forms part of the force’s long-term vision to integrate scientific and technological advances into policing operations.

He said building national capabilities able to respond to increasingly complex digital threats remains a strategic priority, particularly as cybercrime methods evolve rapidly through the use of AI-powered tools.

During the session, participants explored how deepfake technology continues to advance. Additionally, they assessed its potential impact on evidentiary standards and forensic analysis. Therefore, concerns are rising about the credibility of digital material used in investigations.

Furthermore, officials examined how fabricated audio and visual content can complicate criminal cases. In many situations, such content may delay investigations and create verification challenges. As a result, investigators must adopt more advanced methods to confirm authenticity.

Adapting to Evolving Cybercrime Trends

The dialogue also reviewed both local and international trends in cybercrime. In particular, participants noted a rise in offenses linked to synthetic media and manipulated digital content. Meanwhile, global best practices were analyzed to improve responses to digital misinformation campaigns.

In addition, discussions focused on how security agencies can better monitor and analyze emerging threats. Consequently, authorities aim to strengthen their ability to respond to technologically driven deception.

At the same time, innovation and foresight remain central to modern policing strategies. Therefore, investments continue in smart security systems, predictive technologies, and advanced cybercrime capabilities. As Dubai advances its digital transformation agenda, law enforcement is aligning its approach to meet future challenges.
