OpenAI Expands ChatGPT Into Office Productivity
OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT into workplace software with new collaborative tools that resemble features found in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. The company announced the changes during DevDay 2026 in San Francisco.
The update introduces ChatGPT Space, Pages and collaborative slides. Together, these tools move ChatGPT beyond individual conversations and into shared workplace projects.
ChatGPT Space Creates Shared Workspaces
ChatGPT Space provides a shared environment where teams can work with ChatGPT and OpenAI’s new Dots agents. Users can keep files and pages together while allowing coworkers and AI agents to contribute to projects.
Moreover, pages inside Space can receive specific instructions. For example, a page could monitor a connected team channel and update its content when new information appears.
OpenAI describes Dots as AI agents that can perform tasks on a user’s behalf. Therefore, Space provides teams with a shared environment where people and AI agents can work on the same projects.
Pages Brings Documents Into ChatGPT
OpenAI also introduced Pages, a document format designed for collaboration between people and AI. Users can write, research, generate charts, create images and visualise information within the same workspace.
Consequently, Pages resembles functions traditionally associated with Microsoft Word and Google Docs. However, OpenAI’s approach places AI assistance directly inside the document workflow.
The company also announced collaborative slides. Users can create presentations through conversation, then allow colleagues and AI agents to edit and comment on them. The slide feature will roll out over the coming weeks.
OpenAI Moves Deeper Into Workplace Software
The announcements place OpenAI closer to Microsoft’s core productivity business. Microsoft has also been adding AI capabilities across its workplace applications, while Salesforce and other software companies are expanding their own AI platforms.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is building a broader workplace ecosystem around ChatGPT. Its existing Work environment already supports creating and editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
The new Space and Pages features extend that approach toward shared collaboration. As a result, ChatGPT is increasingly becoming a workspace where teams can create, organise, and update work without moving between separate applications.
