Abu Dhabi Launches AI Platform to Transform Judicial Services
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, in cooperation with the Department of Government Enablement, has launched the first phase of its Judicial AI Platform. The platform supports case analysis, legal research, and other judicial processes while keeping human oversight at the centre.
Additionally, the integrated system uses artificial intelligence to assist judicial and legal teams. However, human verification remains necessary for all outputs produced by the platform. Therefore, the technology aims to improve accuracy, consistency, and efficiency while reducing processing times.
Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, said that the platform represents a further step in the department’s digital transformation and its adoption of advanced technologies in judicial services.
Furthermore, the first phase follows an 18-month roadmap to complete the platform and expand its use across judicial workflows.
AI-assisted case analysis
Initially, the platform includes the Judicial Assistant feature, which supports members of the Public Prosecution and criminal courts. Additionally, it helps analyse selected cases, recommend decisions, and draft judgments using relevant legislation and judicial precedents.
However, AI recommendations remain advisory and non-binding. Therefore, judicial officials continue to make final decisions based on their professional judgment and the law. Moreover, the use of AI does not affect the independence of judicial decision-making.
Future platform expansion
Meanwhile, future phases will expand the platform’s AI capabilities and connect it with criminal, civil, and other relevant systems. Additionally, planned features include real-time translation, automated hearing recordings, and tools that identify potentially forged documents.
As a result, these capabilities are expected to support faster processing and improved documentation of judicial proceedings. Furthermore, the platform will continue to develop as part of a wider digital transformation effort across additional judicial processes.
