GTA VI Extended Look Reveals 5 Major Gameplay Features

GTA VI Extended Look gameplay

After nearly 13 years of anticipation, fans finally received an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI. The latest footage offers a closer view of its characters, gameplay systems, and detailed world.

Rockstar Games released the 26-minute Extended Look on August 27 through an exclusive Netflix livestream. Later, the footage appeared on YouTube as well. The developer captured the gameplay entirely in-game on PlayStation 5.

The footage introduces two central characters, Lucia and Jason, who operate in Vice City. The fictional location draws inspiration from Miami, Florida. Throughout the footage, the pair take part in criminal activities and various everyday experiences.

Meanwhile, the launch follows a turbulent period for the highly anticipated title. Gameplay footage and story details reportedly leaked shortly before the official presentation.

In a statement, Rockstar Games said the leaks had been “heartbreaking” for the team working on the sequel, and that they were “not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.”

Despite the controversy, the Extended Look highlighted several gameplay features that could make GTA VI one of the most ambitious entries yet.

Two Playable Characters and Expanded Driving

One of the biggest highlights is the ability to play as both Jason and Lucia. Players can switch between the two characters seamlessly during gameplay.

The pair appear as a Bonnie-and-Clyde-esque couple who travel around Vice City while committing various crimes. Moreover, their relationship can change as the story progresses.

Player decisions can also influence how their relationship develops. Additionally, players can customize the appearances of both characters with numerous options.

Driving also receives a notable upgrade. For example, the game uses a minimap that resembles a real GPS system and provides navigation guidance.

The footage includes a high-speed police chase involving Jason and Lucia. During these sequences, players can switch characters and decide whether to drive or shoot at pursuing officers.

Beyond traditional vehicles, the game offers several other ways to explore its world. Players can ride fanboats through the Everglades, go kayaking, and use jet skis in the Gulf.

Activities, NPCs and a More Reactive World

GTA VI also appears to offer a much broader range of activities. For instance, the footage shows parachuting, clubbing, swimming with dolphins, and gym workouts.

Characters also use their phones to communicate through text messages. Furthermore, the Extended Look shows eating and exercising as interactive activities.

NPC behaviour also appears more dynamic than in previous games. Pedestrians respond to their surroundings while wearing different outfits and engaging in various activities.

For example, the footage shows NPCs wearing yoga outfits and riding scooters. Meanwhile, car chases appear to account for pedestrians instead of simply treating them as obstacles.

The game also includes smaller interactions that could add depth to Vice City. In one scene, players can pet a dog and earn points through an honour system.

Additionally, wanted levels appear to depend on multiple factors. These include the vehicle a player drives and the character’s appearance.

Interestingly, social media users have compared the gameplay controls shown in GTA VI with those featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.

What GTA VI Still Keeps Hidden

Despite the extensive gameplay reveal, several major details remain unknown. The footage did not fully reveal the game’s radio stations or music playlists.

Likewise, questions remain about how player damage will work during shootouts. Other gameplay mechanics also remain under wraps ahead of launch.

GTA VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026. The game will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.

Until then, Rockstar still has plenty of details to reveal. However, the Extended Look already suggests a more interactive world, deeper character systems, and broader gameplay options than previous entries.
