Anthropic Partners with Macquarie and GIC to Build AI Data Centres
Anthropic has formed a strategic partnership with Macquarie Asset Management and Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC. Together, the companies will develop dedicated data centre infrastructure for Anthropic’s growing AI workloads.
Theseus Infrastructure Targets AI Capacity
The partnership will establish Theseus Infrastructure, a platform focused on developing, operating and leasing data centres at scale. Moreover, Anthropic will serve as the anchor tenant under long-term agreements.
Initially, Theseus will focus on sites in the United States. The partners will identify locations and develop facilities designed specifically around Anthropic’s computing requirements. Consequently, the arrangement gives Anthropic access to purpose-built capacity without owning every facility directly.
Meanwhile, funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management and GIC will own the platform. They will also provide most of the equity required for individual projects. However, the companies have not disclosed the total investment planned for the programme.
Infrastructure Investment Accelerates
The partnership comes as demand for Claude continues to increase among businesses, developers and consumers. Therefore, Anthropic needs substantially more computing capacity to support model training and deployment.
Anthropic has already committed heavily to US infrastructure. In November 2025, the company announced a $50 billion investment in American computing infrastructure, including purpose-built facilities in Texas and New York.
Furthermore, Anthropic expanded its computing commitments in 2026 through partnerships with major technology providers. The company announced access to up to five gigawatts of additional AWS capacity. It also secured multiple gigawatts of Google TPU capacity expected to come online from 2027.
Energy Costs Remain a Focus
However, expanding AI infrastructure also creates pressure on local electricity systems. Therefore, Anthropic has committed to covering electricity price increases that consumers could otherwise face because of its facilities.
The planned developments should also generate construction and permanent operational jobs in host communities. Meanwhile, Macquarie brings experience in developing and financing digital infrastructure, while GIC contributes its long-term global infrastructure investment capabilities.
Overall, the partnership shows how AI companies are increasingly combining technology expertise with institutional infrastructure capital. As demand for advanced AI grows, dedicated data centres will remain central to Anthropic’s expansion strategy.
