WhatsApp Android Redesign Brings iPhone-Style Navigation
WhatsApp is reportedly testing a redesigned navigation bar for its Android app. The update brings an iPhone-inspired appearance to the messaging platform.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature appeared in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.38.10. However, the company has not confirmed a public release date.
WhatsApp Tests Floating Navigation Bar
The redesigned interface introduces a floating bottom navigation bar with rounded corners. Moreover, the bar appears visually separated from the rest of the screen.
The change brings Android’s navigation closer to WhatsApp’s iOS interface. Nevertheless, the Android version retains its own design elements. It does not directly adopt Apple’s Liquid Glass interface.
WhatsApp previously introduced bottom navigation in Android beta version 2.23.10.6. That update moved Chats, Communities, Updates and Calls to the bottom of the screen.
Now, the latest experiment focuses on the navigation bar’s appearance and layout. Consequently, users could see a more refined interface while switching between the app’s main sections.
What the Redesign Means for Android Users
The floating navigation bar could make WhatsApp’s interface feel more consistent across Android and iPhone. However, the reported changes primarily concern visual design.
The redesign also follows earlier interface updates on both platforms. WhatsApp introduced its floating tab bar on iOS alongside its broader Liquid Glass-inspired changes.
Meanwhile, the Android experiment appears more noticeable in light mode. The difference reportedly becomes less apparent when users enable dark mode.
WhatsApp has not confirmed whether user feedback influenced the redesign. Furthermore, the company has not announced any changes to the app’s core messaging features.
Expected Availability and Rollout
Therefore, users should not expect the redesign to be available immediately through a standard Play Store update. WhatsApp may change the interface further before releasing it to testers.
The company has yet to provide a rollout timeline. Its eventual availability will depend on further development and testing.
