Anthropic Expands AI Infrastructure With Compute Deals

Anthropic AI data center infrastructure

Anthropic is accelerating its AI infrastructure expansion through multibillion-dollar computing agreements that span cloud providers, data center operators, and infrastructure partners. The company has paired a reported $200 billion, five-year Google Cloud commitment with a newly disclosed $10 billion computing contract involving Nvidia-backed startup Volta Infra Holdings, highlighting the growing demand for AI compute capacity.

The Google Cloud agreement represents one of the largest cloud consumption commitments in the industry. In addition, Google has committed up to $40 billion in new funding for Anthropic, including a $10 billion upfront investment at a reported $350 billion valuation, with additional funding tied to performance milestones. Consequently, Google has strengthened both its commercial and strategic relationship with the AI company.

Volta partnership adds Norway AI capacity

Anthropic has also signed a six-year, $10 billion contract with Volta Infra Holdings, a cloud infrastructure startup backed by Nvidia and Dell Technologies. Under the agreement, Volta will provide computing capacity through a data center in Tydal, Norway, operated by Bitdeer Technologies and powered by Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin AI chips.

The Norway facility will operate on renewable hydropower and deliver computing capacity in two phases beginning in late 2026 and early 2027. Meanwhile, Bitdeer has disclosed a 16-year colocation agreement with Volta that could generate up to $8 billion in revenue if extension options are exercised. Following the announcement, Bitdeer shares climbed sharply as investors responded to the long-term infrastructure partnership.

AI infrastructure race reaches new scale

These agreements add to Anthropic’s broader infrastructure strategy. Previously, the company committed more than $100 billion to Amazon Web Services over the next decade and announced a $50 billion U.S. data center initiative with Fluidstack. Furthermore, reports indicate Anthropic has explored additional computing arrangements with Meta while securing major financing packages for chip infrastructure backed by leading investment firms.

Together, these commitments represent one of the largest AI infrastructure buildouts ever announced. Rather than relying on a single cloud provider, Anthropic is spreading workloads across multiple partners to secure long-term access to compute, power, and advanced AI hardware. As competition among frontier AI developers intensifies, infrastructure has become a defining advantage alongside model performance and research talent.
