AMD Reports Record Revenue on AI Demand

AMD AI data center leadership

AMD reported record quarterly revenue of $11.5 billion for the second quarter of 2026, marking a 50% year-over-year increase as demand for AI infrastructure continued to accelerate. The company’s data center business generated $6.7 billion in revenue, more than doubling from a year earlier and becoming AMD’s largest business segment. Despite the strong results, AMD shares fell after investors looked for even stronger growth and higher margins.

The company also exceeded Wall Street expectations for adjusted earnings and issued third-quarter revenue guidance of approximately $13 billion. However, investors remained cautious because expectations had risen sharply following AMD’s recent gains in the AI chip market.

Data center business drives AI growth

AMD’s Data Center segment delivered $6.72 billion in revenue, representing 107% annual growth. Meanwhile, demand for EPYC server processors and Instinct AI accelerators continued to expand across hyperscale cloud providers and enterprise customers. As a result, the segment accounted for roughly 58% of the company’s total quarterly revenue.

CEO Lisa Su said AMD expects data center revenue to more than double again by 2027. Furthermore, the company highlighted growing customer demand for its Helios AI platform and next-generation MI450 accelerators, with major deployments planned across leading cloud and AI companies.

AI strategy strengthens despite market reaction

AMD continues to position itself as the leading challenger to Nvidia in AI infrastructure. Over recent months, the company announced expanded partnerships with Meta, OpenAI, Microsoft, Oracle, Anthropic, and other major customers to deploy its AI hardware at scale. Consequently, AMD expects AI products to remain the primary driver of long-term growth.

Although the earnings report surpassed analyst estimates, investors focused on flat gross margin guidance and intensifying competition in AI chips. In addition, concerns over supply constraints and Nvidia’s continued market leadership weighed on sentiment. Nevertheless, AMD maintained its outlook for continued AI-driven expansion as enterprise demand for high-performance computing infrastructure grows.
