Google Voice Launches Paid Plans With Gemini AI for Personal Gmail Users

Google Voice Gemini AI interface

Google has launched two paid Google Voice plans for personal Gmail users in the United States. As a result, users no longer need a Google Workspace subscription to access premium calling tools. Additionally, the update brings Gemini-powered AI call features to individual users for the first time.

Paid Plans Add Professional Calling Features

The Google Voice Starter plan costs $10 per month and includes three-way calling, call transfers, call recording, desktop phone support, and 24/7 customer support. Moreover, Google guarantees that numbers on paid plans will not be reclaimed because of inactivity.

Meanwhile, the Google Voice Standard plan costs $20 per month and adds auto attendants for call routing along with Gemini AI integration.

Users can subscribe with only a personal Gmail account, so a Google Workspace subscription is no longer required. Furthermore, Google is offering a 50% introductory discount on the Standard plan for the first six months, reducing the monthly price to $10.

Gemini AI Enhances Call Note-Taking

The Standard plan includes the “Take notes for me” feature, which was previously limited to Google Workspace subscribers. It uses Gemini AI to record and transcribe calls, summarize key discussion points, and organize action items.

When a user taps “Notes” during a call, all participants hear a disclaimer that the conversation is being recorded by AI. After the call ends, the user receives an email containing the summary. Additionally, the Voice app stores the full transcript, audio recording, and notes.

According to Google, only the person who activates the feature can access the notes and transcriptions. Currently, the AI note-taking feature supports only English and works with one language per call.

Consumer Expansion Targets Individuals and Small Businesses

The new standalone plans mark one of the biggest updates to Google Voice’s consumer service in years. Since its launch in 2009, Google Voice has offered a free personal tier, while premium features remained exclusive to Workspace subscribers.

Now, Google is targeting individuals, entrepreneurs, and small businesses that need professional calling tools without paying for a full Workspace account. However, the standalone plans are currently available only in the United States, although the company plans to expand availability to more countries in the future.
