Gemini Live Adds Real-Time AI Image Creation and Editing

Gemini Live image editing feature

Google has introduced a new feature for Gemini Live that allows users to generate and edit images during live AI conversations. The capability is now available through the Gemini app on both Android and iOS devices.

Create and Edit Images With Your Camera

Users can access the feature by opening the Gemini app, tapping the Live button, enabling camera sharing, and describing the changes they want to see. According to the official Gemini app account, “Just open the Gemini app, tap the Live button, share your camera, and tell Gemini what you want to see.”

Once camera sharing is active, users can point their device at an object or scene and give verbal instructions. Gemini then creates or modifies images in real time while the live session continues. As a result, users can interact with AI-generated visuals without leaving the conversation.

The feature runs on Google’s Nano Banana image model, which is designed for fast image generation and editing. Moreover, the update combines two previously separate capabilities: Gemini Live’s camera-sharing functionality and Nano Banana’s image-generation tools. Consequently, users now receive a more seamless creative experience.

Expanding Gemini Live Capabilities

The launch follows several recent updates to Gemini Live. Less than three weeks ago, Sundar Pichai revealed that users have generated more than 50 billion images with Nano Banana models.

At the same event, Google introduced an upgraded Gemini Live experience that “opens immediately and inline” while using a new model that is “smarter, faster and less distracted by background noise.”

Meanwhile, Gemini Live has continued to evolve beyond voice interactions. The service added camera and screen sharing across Android and iOS in 2025. Later, it gained integrations with Google Maps, Calendar, Tasks, and Keep. Additionally, the March 2026 Gemini Drop improved response speeds by 20 percent.

Stronger Competition in Multimodal AI

The addition of real-time image generation brings Gemini Live closer to competing multimodal AI platforms. Furthermore, the integration between Nano Banana and Gemini’s conversational interface allows users to create, edit, and refine visuals without switching between tools.

The feature is available now through the Gemini app for Android and iOS users.
