Instagram Plus Launches Globally With Premium Story Features and Analytics

Instagram Plus premium features launch

Meta has officially launched Instagram Plus worldwide, introducing an optional subscription tier priced at $3.99 per month. The new offering gives users access to more than 11 exclusive features focused on Stories, profile customization, and audience insights.

According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the subscription aims to provide users with greater control over their Instagram experience. For example, Story Extend keeps Stories visible for 48 hours instead of the usual 24. Meanwhile, Story Spotlight allows subscribers to place one Story per week at the front of followers’ Story trays for increased visibility.

Additionally, subscribers can create unlimited audience lists beyond Close Friends, view Stories anonymously, track aggregate rewatch counts, and search viewer lists for specific users. They also receive access to custom app icons, personalized bio fonts, up to six profile pins, animated Super Heart reactions, and the ability to post directly to profiles or highlights without appearing in followers’ feeds.

According to Instagram’s official announcement, the subscription is “designed to give you more of what you love about Instagram,” with additional features expected in the coming months.

Meta Expands Its Subscription Ecosystem

Instagram Plus forms part of a broader subscription strategy that Meta unveiled in late May. At the same time, Facebook Plus launched for $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus debuted at $2.99 monthly with messaging-focused benefits such as custom themes and extra pinned chats.

Furthermore, Meta is testing premium offerings under a new Meta One umbrella. These include AI-focused plans priced at $7.99 and $19.99 per month, alongside professional creator subscriptions ranging from $14.99 to $49.99 per month in selected markets.

As a result, the company continues to expand beyond traditional advertising while creating new revenue opportunities across its family of apps.

Global Rollout Signals Confidence in Premium Demand

Instagram Plus first entered limited testing in late March across Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines. During that phase, pricing ranged from approximately $1 to $2.20 per month. However, the move to a global $3.99 price point reflects confidence in the service’s value and user appeal.

Importantly, the free version of Instagram remains unchanged. Moreover, Meta has emphasized that the subscription remains entirely optional for users.

The launch also marks a significant shift in the company’s business strategy. While advertising continues to drive much of its revenue, Meta is increasingly pursuing direct consumer payments. Consequently, subscriptions are becoming a larger part of its long-term growth plans across social media, messaging, and AI-powered services.
