Apple has appointed Johny Srouji as chief hardware officer, effective immediately. At the same time, the company is preparing for a major leadership transition. Tim Cook will step down as CEO, while John Ternus will assume the role on September 1.
Srouji will now oversee both Hardware Engineering and Hardware Technologies. As a result, he gains authority across Apple’s full hardware stack. This change also centralizes hardware leadership under a single executive.
Retention and Strategic Importance
The promotion follows a period when Srouji considered leaving the company. However, Apple retained him through expanded responsibilities and incentives. Consequently, his role has grown significantly within the organization.
Srouji joined Apple in 2008 after roles at Intel and IBM. Since then, he has led the development of Apple’s in-house chip strategy. In addition, he played a central role in the transition to Apple silicon and custom wireless technologies.
Consolidating Hardware Vision
The leadership shift consolidates Apple’s hardware strategy during a critical product cycle. Meanwhile, the company is preparing for upcoming device launches, including new form factors. Therefore, unified oversight may streamline development and execution.
The restructuring also follows broader executive changes across several divisions in late 2025. As a result, Apple now operates with a more consolidated leadership structure. This approach positions the company to maintain focus while navigating its next phase of innovation.
