Meet Xteink X4, The Compact E-Reader That Snaps to Your iPhone

Compact Xteink X4 e-reader

A new compact e-reader called Xteink X4 now attaches magnetically to the back of an iPhone. It uses a 4.3-inch e-ink screen, and it connects through Qi2 or MagSafe, so setup feels quick and simple. Although it weighs only 74 grams, it still works as a standalone device, and it offers enough portability to slip into almost any pocket. Additionally, it includes an ESP32 microcontroller with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which allows fast transfers and smoother pairing. The device ships with a 32GB microSD card and includes 128MB of RAM. It runs on a 650mAh battery that lasts up to 14 days, assuming one to three hours of daily reading.

Features That Focus on Versatility

Because the screen is small, users will turn pages more often; however, this design encourages light, distraction-free reading. The X4 can also display boarding passes, membership cards, and calendars, so it serves multiple purposes during travel. Moreover, it supports ePUB, text files, BMP and JPG, offering enough flexibility for common file types. It lacks a touchscreen and instead relies on physical side buttons, which may feel refreshing for readers who prefer tactile control. Since it has no backlight, you will need an external light source at night, yet daytime visibility remains sharp and power-efficient.

Unlike many larger e-readers, it does not provide a built-in bookstore. Therefore, you must sideload DRM-free content or purchase books in EPUB or TXT format. The X4 includes two default fonts, and you can install additional ones, which allows a modest level of personalization.
