WhatsApp Tests New Instagram-Like Status Questions Feature

WhatsApp testing Status Questions feature

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new interactive feature called Status Questions, inspired by Instagram’s popular “Question” sticker. The feature allows users to post a question on their WhatsApp Status and receive private responses from contacts. It is currently available to a limited number of Android beta testers, with a wider rollout expected in the coming weeks. According to reports, each time someone responds, the original poster will receive a notification.

This addition aims to make Status updates more engaging and conversational. Moreover, it encourages user interaction without compromising privacy since responses are visible only to the person who posted the question and the respondent.

How the Status Questions Feature Works

The new feature appears in the latest Android beta version (2.25.29.12) and is being introduced gradually. Some users may not see the option immediately, even after updating the app. Developers are reportedly using this phased rollout to fix bugs and collect early feedback.

Once enabled, users can add a question box to their Status update alongside photos or videos. Contacts can then respond by typing directly into the question sticker. All answers appear privately within the Viewers’ List, ensuring a secure and personalized experience.

If a contact’s app version doesn’t yet support this feature, a message will appear stating that the function isn’t available for them. This ensures clarity and prevents confusion while maintaining a consistent experience across versions.

Privacy and Future Rollout Plans

Reports suggest that all responses will be end-to-end encrypted, allowing only the sender and recipient to view them. This mirrors WhatsApp’s existing privacy standards for chats and calls. Additionally, users will reportedly receive notifications when someone answers their question and may even be able to share certain responses as new Status updates.

The feature could also include moderation tools, such as the ability to report inappropriate replies. While still in testing, WhatsApp’s latest experiment shows a continued push toward interactive features, bridging elements from social platforms like Instagram while keeping privacy at the forefront.
