OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Pulse to Deliver Personalized Morning Briefs

ChatGPT Pulse AI reports dashboard

OpenAI has unveiled Pulse, a new feature within ChatGPT designed to generate personalised morning briefs while users sleep. The tool delivers five to ten summaries that help people start their day informed, much like traditional news apps or social media. Unlike reactive chat features, Pulse represents a proactive shift, aiming to make ChatGPT feel more like a digital assistant than a chatbot.

Subscribers on the $200-per-month Pro plan will see Pulse as a new tab, with Plus users set to gain access later. Reports cover both general topics such as news updates and tailored content based on user context. Importantly, Pulse is designed to stop after a limited number of reports, encouraging focus rather than endless scrolling.

Features and Personalisation

Pulse presents reports in card format, combining AI-generated images and text. Users can click through to explore details or ask further questions. It integrates with Connectors, enabling links to Gmail and Google Calendar for daily agendas and priority emails. If memory is activated, the feature also uses past conversations to personalise results.

Examples include customised itineraries, dining recommendations aligned with dietary preferences, or curated lists of updates for hobbies and travel plans. These functions highlight Pulse’s potential to act as more than a simple aggregator, instead offering assistant-like support in day-to-day planning.

Future Possibilities and Challenges

While Pulse strengthens ChatGPT’s proactive role, its computing requirements vary widely. Some reports may run efficiently, while others demand extensive data processing and web searches. This makes scalability a concern as OpenAI balances performance with cost.

Looking forward, OpenAI plans to expand Pulse’s agentic capabilities. The vision includes drafting emails, managing bookings, or even making reservations on behalf of users. However, such features will depend on advances in AI trustworthiness and efficiency before full deployment.
