You can use your iPhone as a camera for Mac thanks to “Continuity Camera” on MacOs Ventura feature

Apple recently introduced a new way to connect the Mac and the iPhone at its Worldwide Developers Conference 2022 (WWDC). iPhones will be able to be utilized as cameras for Macs with iOS 16 and macOS Ventura. This new function is simple to use and does not require any setup, as you would expect from Apple products in general.

Customers with a Mac may now utilize their iPhone as a camera thanks to Continuity Camera, which enables previously impossible webcam features. With the power of Continuity, Mac can automatically recognize and use the camera on iPhone when it is close — without the need to wake it up or choose it — and iPhone can wirelessly connect to Mac for increased versatility.

Because of how well the two operating systems work together when the Mac is in webcam mode, it will be able to use the iPhone’s advanced camera functions. With Center Stage, for example, users can move around a room while staying in the frame. They may also use the Portrait settings on the iPhone to blur their backgrounds and add other lighting effects.

With this change, people who have a Mac Mini or Mac Studio can use an iPhone as a camera instead of buying a separate one. It’s also a great way for people with MacBooks to look clearer in video chats since the iPhone’s back cameras are better than those on MacBooks. Not to mention Center Stage and the lighting effects that don’t come with a MacBook by default. You aslo get something that Apple calls the “Desk View”, it basically uses the ultrawide camera of your iPhone to show the other party on the video call a view of your desk.

This Continuity Camera looks like another sign that Apple is making its ecosystem stronger. When people think about all the benefits they get from buying all the company’s products, they are tempted to stop using devices from other brands.

No cross-platform software from a third party will ever work as well with a system as Apple’s operating systems. So, no one can compete with the Cupertino tech giant when it comes to making features work on both Apple products and devices made by other companies.
