Yango Launches Autonomous Robot Food Delivery in Expo City Dubai

Yango’s autonomous robots deliver food in Expo City Dubai.

Yango Group has introduced a groundbreaking pilot program for autonomous robot food delivery in Expo City Dubai. This new service aims to enhance convenience for the city’s employees, residents, and visitors while supporting Dubai’s vision of becoming a smart city. Over the next four months, autonomous robots will be delivering meals from select cafés and restaurants to Al Wasl Plaza, the city’s main office area.

The robots use cutting-edge AI technology to independently plan their routes, navigate around obstacles, and ensure pedestrian safety. With the help of high-definition maps and an array of sensors, they can avoid pedestrians, vehicles, and static obstacles even in low-light or adverse weather conditions. Importantly, the robots produce zero emissions, operating quietly and sustainably compared to traditional delivery vehicles.

Enhancing the Smart City Vision

Yango’s robot delivery service aligns perfectly with Expo City Dubai’s goals of becoming a model for future cities. Nikita Gavrilov, Regional Head of Yango Tech Autonomy, expressed excitement about this collaboration, emphasizing the controlled environment within Expo City as ideal for testing autonomous technology. The robots’ AI systems enable them to seamlessly blend into urban environments, moving efficiently and safely while delivering meals.

In addition to food delivery, the robots’ performance will be closely monitored to improve last-mile delivery practices, an essential component of smart city infrastructure. This initiative also exemplifies Expo City Dubai’s commitment to urban innovation. Dr. Amy Hochadel, Vice President of Urban Lab at Expo City, highlighted that the city serves as a testbed for new technologies, and this pilot program is just one example of how Expo City is setting the standard for future human-centric urban living.

Future Expansion Plans

Currently, the pilot program is available for deliveries to the Al Wasl 3 office building. To order, users can use the Expo City Eats app, which facilitates food delivery across the city. During this pilot phase, Yango’s robots will deliver meals from four select restaurants to designated points within the office building. After the pilot’s successful completion, the service will expand to other restaurants, with plans for a full commercial rollout to all residents and commercial tenants.
