xAI on Thursday introduced direct SuperGrok subscription support inside NousResearch’s open-source Hermes Agent platform. The integration allows subscribers to access Grok models through Hermes without creating separate API keys or developer accounts.
The feature uses a browser-based OAuth login system that authenticates users through their existing xAI credentials. As a result, subscribers can connect Grok services to Hermes Agent with a single approval step.
OAuth Access Simplifies Grok Integration
The new “xAI Grok OAuth” provider opens a secure browser window connected to accounts.x.ai for authentication. After approval, Hermes Agent automatically refreshes the session in the background to maintain uninterrupted access.
In addition, the same OAuth token supports other xAI-powered tools integrated into Hermes. These include text-to-speech capabilities, image generation functions, and additional Grok-based services.
The integration uses Grok 4.3 as the default model. However, users can switch to alternative model variants through Hermes Agent’s configuration settings or model selection tools.
Hermes Agent Expands Multi-Platform Capabilities
Nous Research released Hermes Agent in February 2026 under an MIT open-source license. The platform runs persistently on local machines or servers and maintains memory between sessions.
Furthermore, Hermes automatically creates reusable skills from completed tasks, which allows the system to improve over time. The platform also supports more than 15 communication channels, including Discord, Telegram, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, and SMS.
Voice messages received through supported platforms are automatically transcribed. Meanwhile, the system can generate audio replies using xAI’s text-to-speech endpoint for Grok subscribers.
Open-Source AI Agents Gain Momentum
The launch arrives as Hermes Agent continues rapid growth within the open-source AI ecosystem. Earlier this month, the platform surpassed 224 billion daily tokens on OpenRouter and became the most-used open-source AI agent globally.
Previously, Hermes supported Grok through standard API key access. However, the new subscription-based OAuth model removes a technical barrier for consumer users unfamiliar with API credential management.
NousResearch also indicated that additional subscription-based integrations are planned for future releases as open-source AI agent adoption continues to expand.
