WhatsApp Expands Cross-Device Features With iPad Support
WhatsApp has introduced a new set of features that make the messaging platform more useful across tablets, cars, desktops, and music services. The update includes direct account registration on iPad, improved Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, built-in PDF editing, and music sharing from Apple Music and Spotify to WhatsApp Status. Together, these additions reflect Meta’s effort to make WhatsApp a more connected communication platform across devices.
Moreover, the new features are rolling out globally and aim to reduce the need for companion devices while improving everyday productivity. As a result, users can access more of WhatsApp’s capabilities regardless of where they are.
iPad Registration Becomes Independent
One of the biggest changes allows users to create a WhatsApp account directly on an iPad. Previously, the iPad app functioned only as a companion to an existing smartphone account. Now, users can register within the iPad app without linking it to a phone first, although a phone number is still required during the initial verification process.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp continues its shift toward usernames and device independence. Consequently, iPad users gain a more flexible setup experience while relying less on a primary smartphone.
Car, Desktop, and Music Features Receive Upgrades
WhatsApp has also redesigned its experience for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers can now read and reply to messages, make calls, access call history, and reach favorite contacts directly from their vehicle’s display using hands-free controls. Therefore, communication becomes safer and more convenient while driving.
In addition, desktop and web users can now open PDF files without downloading them first. Adobe Acrobat integration also enables lightweight editing, including highlighting and annotations, directly within WhatsApp chats.
Furthermore, WhatsApp now lets users share songs from Apple Music and Spotify directly to their Status. Friends can instantly see what someone is listening to, making Status updates more interactive and personal. With these additions, Meta continues expanding WhatsApp beyond traditional messaging into a broader communication and productivity platform.
