Ultraloq Bolt NFC Brings Tap-to-Unlock to Android

Ultraloq NFC smart lock with phone

The Ultraloq Bolt NFC smart lock is gaining a free upgrade that enables NFC tap-to-unlock for compatible Android phones. Until now, the feature was only supported on iPhones through Apple’s Home Key. With the latest update, the lock becomes one of the first to support seamless unlocking across both iOS and Android. Users no longer need to unlock their phones, open apps, or activate the screen; a quick tap is enough.

App Upgrade Brings Simplicity

The feature arrives via a software update to the U Home app, now available on the Google Play Store. Once installed, the app acts as the phone’s NFC handler, allowing it to run in the background and manage credentials securely. As a result, nearly all NFC-enabled Android smartphones can now use tap-to-unlock without extra accessories like tags or fobs.

Toward a Universal Standard

NFC unlocking works by allowing both the phone and lock to communicate securely, similar to how contactless payments function. While this has been more common for iPhone users, Android owners have had fewer options until now. A new smart lock standard called Aliro is in development and aims to make NFC unlocking universal across devices, but it has yet to launch.
