Razan Al Mubarak, who serves as both the President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP28, emphasized the importance of prioritizing pragmatic solutions to combat biodiversity loss and climate change. Speaking at the ‘One Forest Summit’ in Gabon, Al Mubarak highlighted the UAE’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of such solutions, including initiatives like the ‘Positive Conservation Partnership.’

She emphasized the critical need to protect, restore, sustain, and manage nature to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Al Mubarak stressed that COP28 will prioritize inclusion and action, with a focus on the global south.

Indigenous peoples, youth, and finance are crucial components of the solutions needed to combat biodiversity loss and climate change. Al Mubarak emphasized the need to ensure that the needs and concerns of nature-rich-developing countries are heard and incorporated into solutions. She also stressed the importance of unlocking trillions of dollars in finance, ensuring that it reaches the right places and people.
