The government-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging network, UAEV, revealed on Thursday that new charging tariffs will be implemented starting in January 2025. The updated pricing structure will see DC chargers priced at Dh1.20 per kWh, plus VAT, while AC chargers will cost Dh0.70 per kWh, also plus VAT.
This move marks a significant step toward enhancing the sustainability and scalability of the UAE’s EV charging infrastructure. It’s important to note that, since their introduction in May, EV charging services have remained free of charge, with the new fees set to be the first in place since then.
In line with these changes, UAEV is also launching a mobile application designed to improve the user experience. The app will offer features such as locating the nearest charging station, providing live status updates, and offering simple payment options for users.
Additionally, to complement the app, UAEV is establishing a dedicated 24/7 call centre to ensure immediate support and assistance, ensuring a seamless experience for EV drivers at all times.
“The implementation of standardised charging tariffs, coupled with the launch of the UAEV app and around-the-clock customer support, underscores our commitment to improving the EV driver experience. By expanding our network and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, we are paving the way for a cleaner, greener future,” said Sharif Al Olama, Chairman of UAEV.
Looking ahead, UAEV plans to expand its network to 1,000 chargers by 2030. These chargers will be strategically located across urban hubs, highways, and key transit points throughout the UAE, ensuring accessibility for both inter-city and intra-city EV users across all emirates.
