Meta is testing a new feature on Threads that allows users to share long-form content without creating multiple posts. Instead of forming a chain of short updates, users can attach a block of text directly to a post. This feature makes it easier to share in-depth thoughts, news snippets, book excerpts, or other extended content.
The attached text appears in a gray box within the post. Viewers can click on the box to read and scroll through the full content. This update eliminates the need for workarounds, such as uploading screenshots from a notes app, when posts exceed the word limit.
Competing With X’s Long-Form Tools
X already offers long-form content through its “Articles” feature, but access is restricted to Premium subscribers. In contrast, Threads’ version is available to all users during testing. However, Meta could change this availability later.
Currently, Threads supports only text-based long-form sharing. By comparison, X’s tool allows creators to add images and videos. Since the feature is still in development, Threads may expand support to multimedia formats in the future.
Growing Features and User Base
The long-form option is the latest in a series of updates to Threads. Over the past year, the platform has rolled out DMs, fediverse integrations, custom feeds, and AI-powered enhancements. Each addition is designed to increase engagement and make the platform more appealing to creators.
Threads now has over 400 million monthly active users, just two years after launch. Despite still trailing behind X in total users, its steady growth highlights Meta’s effort to position Threads as a strong competitor in the social networking space.
