Elon Musk has said that Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system could launch in the UAE as early as next month. He made the comment while responding to a question on social media, adding that the technology could “hopefully” be available in the country soon. As a result, investor optimism increased, and shares rose to an intraday record before closing higher.
However, no official rollout plan has been confirmed yet. Moreover, no regulatory approval timeline has been announced. Any launch would therefore depend on local rules and road safety requirements.
How the system works
Despite its name, Full Self-Driving is not a fully autonomous system. Instead, it functions as an advanced driver-assistance feature. It can help with steering, braking, lane changes, city navigation, and parking. At the same time, drivers must remain alert, keep their hands ready, and take control whenever needed. Responsibility for the vehicle stays with the driver.
Musk’s remarks came shortly after his visit to the UAE. During that visit, he met senior officials and shared positive comments about the country online.
What it could mean for UAE drivers
If launched, FSD (Supervised) would allow vehicles to assist with highway driving, urban travel, and parking under driver supervision. As a result, it could ease daily commuting in cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In particular, it may help drivers better manage frequent traffic congestion.
