Sharjah announces free WiFi service for intercity buses in the UAE

The Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) in Sharjah has announced the introduction of free internet service on intercity buses between cities in the emirate. The move comes as part of the authority’s efforts to improve the quality of services provided to public transport users under its comprehensive development plan. In addition, passengers waiting at the Sharjah bus station can also access free WiFi by connecting to the open network, without the need to create usernames or passwords or provide personal details.

Sharjah’s intercity buses operate on 15 main routes daily as part of the integrated public transport system mainly operated by the Mowasalat Buses by SRTA. Commuters in Sharjah use the Sayer and Mowasalat cards for convenient payment options, similar to Dubai’s NOL card.

The introduction of free WiFi on intercity buses from Dubai to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi is also part of the authority’s initiative, aimed at allowing commuters to browse the internet through their portable devices, tablets or smartphones, and perform several tasks while in transit.

Meanwhile, free WiFi service is already available on public buses in Abu Dhabi, provided by du telecoms, for all passengers. The service can be accessed at all main bus stations in Abu Dhabi and across all air-conditioned bus shelters in the city.
