Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee passed away on Tuesday at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest, according to a company spokesperson. Han, who dedicated over 37 years to Samsung, played a key role in advancing its consumer electronics and mobile businesses.
Samsung: A Pioneering Career in Technology
Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. He was instrumental in developing the company’s LED TV technology and later led its electronics and appliances divisions. In 2022, he was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO, overseeing the company’s global expansion amid market challenges.
Following his passing, Samsung’s semiconductor head, Jun Young-Hyun, will serve as the company’s sole CEO.
Challenges and Strategic Vision
During his tenure, Han faced challenges in the semiconductor sector, particularly in competition with TSMC and SK Hynix. Last week, he chaired an investor meeting, acknowledging stock performance concerns and outlining plans for strategic mergers and acquisitions in 2025.
The Comapny paid tribute to Han’s contributions, highlighting his leadership in making Samsung a dominant force in global electronics. His passing marks the end of an era for the South Korean tech giant.
