Amazon’s Prime Video has introduced AI-generated “Video Recaps” to help viewers catch up between seasons of their favorite shows. The feature uses generative AI to produce theatrical-style summaries combining narration, dialogue, and music. It begins rolling out in beta for select Prime Originals, including Fallout, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and Upload.
Because the recaps highlight full seasons in minutes, users can jump into new episodes without needing to rewatch earlier content. Although text-based AI summaries are already familiar to viewers across apps and search engines, video-driven summaries take a more immersive and prominent approach.
Growing AI Adoption in Streaming Platforms
Prime Video previously introduced X-Ray Recaps, summarizing full seasons and episodes with spoiler-prevention guardrails. Video Recaps expand that idea visually and dramatically. Meanwhile, other streaming platforms are experimenting with AI as well. YouTube TV uses a “Key Plays” system that identifies important moments so users can catch up on sports games that are already in progress.
Netflix has integrated generative AI into its production pipeline to accelerate visual effects, enhance scenes, and assist with creative pre-production. These moves show a shift in entertainment toward AI-enhanced viewer experiences as well as faster production tools.
AI’s Expanding Role in Entertainment
The rise of generative AI in film and television has spurred discussion about its impact on creative industries. Some fear that AI systems trained on artistic work could affect long-standing professional roles. Even so, others point out that AI can support artists by reducing repetitive technical tasks and expanding creative bandwidth.
Because these tools continue evolving rapidly, the entertainment industry is expected to keep experimenting with AI across both viewing platforms and production environments. As a result, technology is becoming increasingly intertwined with storytelling and content distribution.
