OnePlus’ first Android tablet looks to be promising at $479

OnePlus has announced that its first tablet, the OnePlus Pad, will be available for preorder from Friday at a cost of $479, following a teaser earlier this year. In addition to the tablet, customers can purchase a magnetic keyboard for $149, a stylus for $99, and a folio case for $39. The all-metal design tablet is only available in green and has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Shipping is expected to begin on May 8th.

CNET’s Andrew Lanxon, who had the chance to test the tablet earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress trade show, reported that the device felt good to use. The tablet boasts an 11.6-inch display and a 7:5 aspect ratio, making it ideal for reading books, browsing documents, and surfing the web. Lanxon praised the “capacious” 9,510mAh battery, and OnePlus claims that it can support up to 14 hours of video playback and standby for up to a month.

The OnePlus Pad is launching in a crowded market, with many other tablet devices already available from competitors such as Apple, Samsung, and Amazon. CNET’s review rates Samsung’s premium Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, which costs nearly twice as much at $900, as one of the best Android tablets on the market.
