Omantel has partnered with the Port of Salalah to deploy Oman’s first managed private 5G network, marking a major step in the country’s digital transformation journey. The initiative will support the port’s automation strategy while strengthening connectivity across one of Oman’s most important logistics hubs.

The project highlights the growing role of advanced communications technologies in modern port operations. Moreover, it reinforces Omantel’s position as a key provider of digital infrastructure for Oman’s logistics and maritime sectors.

Advanced 5G Infrastructure for Port Automation

Under the agreement, Omantel will deploy a dedicated 5G Standalone private core supported by upgraded mobile sites across the Port of Salalah. In addition, the solution includes ruggedized customer premises equipment designed for industrial environments and 600 SIMs to support the port’s connected device ecosystem.

The network will operate as a fully managed service with 99.9% availability. Consequently, the port will benefit from continuous monitoring, rapid support, and enhanced operational reliability through Omantel’s Network Operations Center and Business Call Center.

Furthermore, the high-performance network will support hundreds of simultaneous connections while integrating seamlessly with existing operational systems. As a result, the port can accelerate automation initiatives and improve real-time decision-making.

Driving Efficiency Across Logistics Operations

Aladdin bin Abdullah Bait Fadhil, Chief Executive Officer of Omantel, stated that, “Our Partnership with the Port of Salalah is a tangible demonstration of Omantel’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation across Oman’s logistics sector. Through the deployment of advanced private 5G infrastructure, we are enabling smarter operations, greater efficiency, and sustainable growth while empowering people with technologies and capabilities needed to thrive in a digital economy. This project reflects our vision to be the digital enabler of choice, driving innovation, strengthening national competitiveness, and supporting long-term economic resilience.”

He added that the deployment demonstrates Omantel’s leadership in delivering advanced private 5G solutions for critical national industries. Moreover, he emphasized that such initiatives support Oman’s ambition to build a competitive, knowledge-based economy powered by innovation and emerging technologies.

Steven Yoogalingam, CEO of the Port of Salalah, said, “This collaboration with Omantel represents an important milestone in our journey toward becoming one of the most advanced and efficient ports in the region.
