Microsoft to Launch Intel-Powered Surface Laptop 5G This August
Microsoft has introduced the Surface Laptop 5G, blending advanced AI features with high-speed cellular connectivity. Starting at $1,799.99, the device will begin shipping on August 26th. It closely mirrors the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7 in appearance, but features internal upgrades to accommodate 5G functionality.
Thanks to Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 processors, the laptop supports Microsoft’s Copilot Plus AI. It also includes a neural processing unit (NPU) that enhances real-time AI experiences. The base model comes with a Core Ultra 5 chip, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. Meanwhile, the top-tier version features a Core Ultra 7, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage, priced at $2,699.
Built for Connectivity and Performance
Unlike previous iterations, the Surface Laptop 5G integrates both a nano SIM slot and eSIM support. These options are housed beside the Surface Connect charging port for convenience. The laptop can also function as a 5G hotspot, sharing its internet connection over Wi-Fi to other devices.
To ensure seamless mobile performance, Microsoft equipped the laptop with a six-antenna system. This setup dynamically adjusts based on how the device is positioned or used. Instead of relying on hidden components, the antenna system has been placed where it can perform optimally without being intrusive.
Designed with Business Users in Mind
Engineered to maintain both performance and aesthetics, the device includes a specially developed multi-layered laminate. This material allows radio signals to pass through while preserving the laptop’s durability and premium feel. Furthermore, Microsoft has tested its 5G components across over 100 mobile networks in more than 50 countries, ensuring widespread compatibility.
Though aimed at business users, the Surface Laptop 5G joins the refreshed Surface Laptop 13-inch and Surface Pro 12-inch models, all of which are available starting today. With its blend of AI power, reliable 5G, and refined design, Microsoft’s latest offering is tailored for professionals who need constant, high-speed connectivity without sacrificing portability.
