Microsoft Teams has launched its largest update to virtual backgrounds since its initial collection debuted in 2020. The tech giant has released a significant collection of animated backgrounds or virtual backgrounds, featuring six new categories to accommodate the needs of millions of users. The Teams crew re-imagined the visual library of backgrounds to cater to user needs and meeting types, focusing on wood and light, contemporary backgrounds, and colourful clouds or mountains.
Microsoft aims to provide more avenues for representation and allyship in its products and services, according to Director of Global Brand Marketing Aleksey Fedorov. The company’s new animated backgrounds are designed to represent the people who use them and how they work best. The new update aims to cater to a diverse audience, which will allow users to customize their virtual backgrounds in Teams to reflect their unique personalities and needs.
Furthermore, Microsoft has rolled out “Avatars” in public preview for its proprietary business communication platform, Teams. The feature offers an alternative to the current binary option of video or no video, allowing users to represent themselves with a virtual character. With these new updates to Teams, Microsoft is reinforcing its commitment to improving its services, enabling people to connect and collaborate remotely in a more efficient and engaging way.
