Microsoft launches Azure Availability Zones in the UAE

Amid organizations’ increasing focus on futureproofing operations and safeguarding considerable gains gained in their digital transformation programs, cloud-native business continuity, and disaster recovery suite launches in the country,

Microsoft announced on August 23 that Azure Availability Zones would be made generally available and provided by its Dubai-based UAE data centers. Microsoft’s commitment to the UAE government, its business community, and its people is strengthened by the investment, which aims to increase the competitiveness of UAE enterprises via essential business continuity and disaster recovery solutions.

According to Naim Yazbeck, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, “With the advent of the always-on economy, uptime and ongoing access to important data, apps, and workloads have become front-of-mind considerations for the region’s technology stakeholders.” “As industries undergo more change and organizations face competition from market disruptors, competitiveness depends on an organization’s capacity to carry on even when external factors disrupt marketplaces and supply chains. Such capabilities cannot be provided by backups alone. Infrastructure and solutions that are strategy-focused are necessary for rapid recovery to be successful. That is what Azure Availability Zones deliver.”

Complete business continuity and disaster recovery plans must include Azure Availability Zones as a fundamental component. Through enhanced architecture and integrated end-to-end security, it is intended to guarantee the resilience and availability of business-critical applications and data in times of crisis.

The introduction of Azure Availability Zones shows that Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates is prepared to serve as the foundation for futureproofing initiatives implemented by organizations in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic.

The capabilities and advantages provided by Microsoft’s enterprise-grade data centers in Dubai, which went live in June 2019, will be expanded upon by Azure Availability Zones. The facilities’ services have allowed many organizations to expand their capacity and rethink their business models. Emirates Group, Commercial Bank of Dubai, Mashreq Bank, and First Abu Dhabi Bank are some of the UAE organizations that have already switched to Microsoft Azure Availability Zones.

According to Srinivasan Sampath, First Abu Dhabi Bank’s Acting Group Chief Technology Officer, “the new availability zones will allow us to improve how we use Microsoft Cloud, offering us a greater level of data security, resilience, and flexibility, which in turn will support our customer-centric ethos and allow us to provide greater benefits for our clients.”

“For more than three years, regional entrepreneurs have used the intelligent, dependable, and adaptable Microsoft Cloud as the core of their digital transformation,” Yazbeck continued. “Business agility, cost reduction, productivity, security, governance, and compliance are just a few advantages that our regional cloud clients have noticed. We anticipate a quick uptake of Availability Zones now that the area has been given access to them as clients look to safeguard their significant gains.
