Apple has named Sabih Khan, a veteran of Indian origin, as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). The transition follows the retirement announcement of Jeff Williams, Apple’s longtime operations leader. Khan, with nearly 30 years at the company, previously served as Senior Vice President of Operations. In his new role, he will report directly to CEO Tim Cook.

Khan has played a significant role in shaping Apple’s global supply chain. Over the years, he has helped develop the company’s operations into one of the most efficient and scalable systems in the tech world. This leadership transition underscores Apple’s preference for continuity and proven experience.

Williams will remain at Apple for a brief period to continue leading the Apple Watch, health, and design teams before stepping down later this year.

From Moradabad to Cupertino

Sabih Khan was born in Moradabad, India, a city known more for its brassware than tech innovation. His academic ambitions led him to the United States, where he earned dual degrees in economics and mechanical engineering from Tufts University. He later completed a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Before joining Apple in 1995, Khan worked at GE Plastics as an applications engineer and technical leader. That role helped him develop the hands-on expertise that later became critical in managing global operations.

At Apple, Khan steadily climbed the ranks. Since 2019, he has led global operations, overseeing manufacturing, procurement, logistics, and product fulfillment. His work has also included key supplier responsibility initiatives focused on labor welfare and sustainability.

Strategic Growth and Sustainability

In recent years, Khan has helped drive Apple’s shift toward sustainable operations and domestic manufacturing. He has supported the development of advanced manufacturing technologies and led efforts to expand Apple’s production footprint in the U.S.

Under his leadership, Apple has also significantly reduced its carbon footprint. These efforts reflect Apple’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility and efficient resource management.

Khan’s new position signals Apple’s confidence in steady, experienced leadership. As the company navigates growing technological demands and a changing global market, his role will be essential in guiding Apple’s next phase of operational excellence.
