Alongside the iPhone 17 lineup, Final Cut Camera 2.0 was revealed with powerful upgrades for video creators. The app gives users access to advanced settings such as manual focus and white balance, ensuring more control during recording. Available later this month, it can be downloaded for free or as an update from the App Store.
The standout features include support for ProRes RAW and genlock, designed exclusively for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. With ProRes RAW, filmmakers can capture sensor data directly, offering flexibility in post-production while still keeping the efficiency of ProRes. At the same time, genlock brings synchronization normally reserved for high-end cinema gear, aligning frame timing with external cameras and eliminating tedious manual adjustments.
Smarter Recording Options
Final Cut Camera 2.0 goes beyond traditional shooting modes. Users can now record in either horizontal or vertical orientation without rotating their device. Moreover, the update introduces open gate recording, which leverages the entire camera sensor. This approach allows creators to capture a wider field of view at resolutions exceeding DCI 4K. Together, these tools transform the iPhone into a more versatile production camera.
