Apple has announced iOS 17, a significant update that enhances the communication experience on iPhone. The new release focuses on making sharing easier with AirDrop, improving typing accuracy and speed with more intelligent input, and introducing upgrades to the phone and messaging features.
One of the notable additions is the Journal app, which facilitates practising gratitude, while StandBy offers a convenient way to view glanceable information when the iPhone is placed down and charging. Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, expressed excitement about the personal and intuitive enhancements brought by iOS 17, emphasizing the updates to Phones, FaceTime, and Messages.
The Phone app receives a major overhaul with the introduction of personalized Contact Posters, allowing users to customize their appearance during incoming calls with various treatments for photos, Memoji, typography, and font colours. These Contact Posters will also be available for third-party calling apps. Another significant feature is Live Voicemail, which enables real-time transcription of voicemail messages and the option to answer calls while the caller is leaving a message. Spam calls identified by carriers will be instantly declined, ensuring a more streamlined voicemail experience.
FaceTime gains new capabilities, including support for audio and video messages for sending messages when the recipient is unavailable. Reactions, such as hearts, balloons, fireworks, and more, add expressiveness to FaceTime calls and can be activated through simple gestures. Apple TV 4K integration brings FaceTime to the big screen, enabling video calls directly from the TV or seamless handoff from iPhone to Apple TV. Center Stage ensures perfect framing during video calls, even when users move around the room.
These updates in iOS 17 aim to enhance user communication, personalization, and convenience, showcasing Apple’s commitment to refining the iPhone experience.
