Dubai’s Crown Prince and Chairman of The Executive Council, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has announced that the city is taking proactive steps to accelerate its goal of becoming one of the world’s leading digital economies. During the second meeting of the Higher Committee for Future Technology and Digital Economy, Sheikh Hamdan stated that Dubai is reinforcing its position as a global hub for cutting-edge technologies and digital business models through the development of plans to accelerate digital growth and adopt new technologies.
Part of the plan to transform Dubai into a top global digital economy hub involves collaborative partnerships between government entities, international businesses, and the broader private sector. The directives set forth aim to make Dubai one of the top 10 digital economies in the world and align with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
In April 2022, Dubai launched the “Digital Economy Strategy”, which aims to double the contribution of the digital economy to the UAE’s gross domestic product (GDP) to nearly 20% within the next 10 years. According to a Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy report, the country’s digital economy is projected to grow to over $140 billion in 2031, up from $38 billion in January 2023.
Overall, Dubai is making significant strides towards becoming a leading digital economy, and the city’s proactive approach to digital growth is set to accelerate its digital transformation further.
