Google recently announced several advancements in its translation application at a virtual event in Paris. These enhancements are powered by artificial intelligence and include contextual translation options, a redesigned application for Apple’s iOS operating system, and an augmented reality feature through Google Lens.
The contextual translation options provide greater accuracy by translating words and phrases based on the context in which they are used. The feature will be rolled out for several languages including English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish in the coming weeks.
In addition to the contextual translation options, the redesigned iOS application will offer a larger typing space, and more accessible entry points for conversation translation, voice input, and lens camera translation. The application will also feature new gestures for easier navigation, including the ability to select a language with fewer taps and quick access to recently used languages through a swipe gesture.
Google has also expanded the number of languages available on the translation app, adding 33 new languages, such as Basque, Corsican, Hawaiian, and Zulu, among others. These updates demonstrate Google’s continued commitment to providing innovative and accessible translation services to users around the world.
