Since the introduction of AI Overviews last year, users have been engaging with longer and more complex queries, leading Google to refine its AI-powered search results for better accuracy and depth.

By utilizing its advanced AI models and ranking systems, Google has broadened its database to cover thousands more health topics. 3. Life-Saving AI for Cardiac Emergencies

In a significant breakthrough, Google’s Loss of Pulse Detection feature has received FDA clearance for the Pixel Watch 3. This first-of-its-kind capability can identify when a user experiences a sudden loss of pulse due to cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, overdose, or other emergencies. If the individual is unresponsive, the device automatically prompts a call to emergency services, potentially saving lives.

Initially announced in 2024 for select European markets, this feature has expanded to 14 countries and is set to roll out in the United States by the end of March 2025.

4. AI-Powered Research Assistance with the AI Co-Scientist

The process of developing new drugs is both time-consuming and costly. To address this, Google has introduced TxGemma, a suite of Gemma-based open models designed to enhance AI-driven drug discovery.

TxGemma can interpret both text-based medical data and molecular structures, enabling researchers to predict the safety and efficacy of potential new treatments. By improving AI’s ability to assess chemical compounds, proteins, and small molecules, this model aims to accelerate the early stages of drug development.

Google is also working with the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology in the Netherlands to develop Capricorn, an AI-powered tool that helps physicians identify personalized cancer treatments for children.

Capricorn uses Gemini models to analyze vast medical databases, combining public medical research with de-identified patient data. This enables the system to generate comprehensive summaries of potential treatment options, giving doctors deeper insights and more time to focus on patient care.

By integrating AI-driven insights, Capricorn is expected to significantly improve decision-making in pediatric oncology, offering more precise and effective treatment strategies for young patients battling cancer.
