Electric Freight Fleet: Latest in UAE by DP World

Electric Freight Vehicles at the Jebel Ali Port

The largest fleet of Electric Freight driverless vehicles has been announced. DP World, a global ports operator, and a freight mobility EV company Einride have partnered for this venture. The collaboration aims to assist in electrifying inter-terminal container flows at Jebel Ali Port, to efficiency and sustainability. “Our partnership will drive greater operational efficiencies, further decarbonise terminal operations and pioneer greener practices for the logistics sector,” said Abdulla bin Damithan, chief executive and managing director of DP World GCC.

The Sweden-based company signed an agreement with the UAE’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in 2023. This will result in a 550km “Falcon Rise” freight mobility grid of autonomous EVs. Founded in 2016, Einride makes driverless electric freight lorries, charging ports and sustainable freight technology. According to Einride, by 2025, the company’s partnership with DP World will scale up to support 1,600 container movements daily. This will be possible through a fleet of 100 connected electric lorries.

Robert Falck, CEO of Einride, highlights the collaboration with DP World at Jebel Ali Port. He aims to revolutionize container transportation, reducing CO2 emissions significantly. This partnership exemplifies blending vision with action for a more sustainable future. Einride estimates it will save 14,600 tons of CO2 and 158 tons of nitrogen oxides annually. Globally, the self-driving vehicle market will reach $2.3 trillion by 2032, compared to $121.78 billion in 2022, as per Precedence Research.
