du Launches World’s First 5G-Advanced L-Band Network
du has deployed the world’s first 5G-Advanced services over the L-Band spectrum in a commercial network. As a result, the launch marks a major step in next-generation mobile connectivity and strengthens the UAE’s position in advanced telecom innovation.
The deployment uses the 1.4 GHz L-Band spectrum, which helps improve spectrum efficiency, expand network capacity and deliver stronger connectivity performance. Moreover, it supports du’s wider 5G-Advanced strategy by adding another layer to its commercial network.
Stronger coverage and capacity
The L-Band spectrum offers a strong balance between broad coverage and network capacity. Therefore, it can support better indoor coverage, wider geographic reach and more stable signal performance across urban, suburban and indoor areas.
In addition, the spectrum can improve uplink performance, which helps create a smoother user experience. This is especially important as customers increasingly depend on reliable mobile connectivity for work, entertainment, smart devices and digital services.
The commercial rollout also shows how L-Band can work as a complementary layer within a multi-band 5G-Advanced network. Furthermore, the spectrum addition can strengthen network resilience, improve load balancing and support higher capacity during peak traffic periods.

The milestone was achieved with support from the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority. In addition, the authority has helped facilitate strategic spectrum access for International Mobile Telecommunications services.
Through this move, du aims to strengthen network capabilities, improve customer experience and increase operational efficiency. Moreover, the operator plans to continue investing in advanced technologies while supporting sustainability goals and expanding digital services across the UAE.
