Meta Welcomes UFC CEO Dana White as New Board Member
Meta Platforms has made a significant addition to its leadership team with the election of UFC CEO Dana White to its board of directors. White, who has developed a close relationship with Mark Zuckerberg over the past few years, joins Meta’s board alongside two other influential figures: former Microsoft executive Charlie Songhurst and John Elkann, CEO of Exor, a global holding company with notable investments in Ferrari, Stellantis NV, and Christian Louboutin.
Zuckerberg expressed excitement about White’s addition, along with Songhurst and Elkann, noting, “Dana, John, and Charlie will bring a depth of expertise and diverse perspectives to our board, which will be essential as we navigate the vast opportunities ahead in AI, wearables, and advancing human connection through technology.” Songhurst has already been involved with Meta, serving on its AI advisory group, offering strategic insights on AI and business growth since May.
In 2022, Zuckerberg praised White’s work in building UFC into a globally popular and valuable brand. White’s entrepreneurial prowess has made him a key figure in the sports and business worlds. Additionally, the UFC CEO attempted to organize a highly publicized cage match between Zuckerberg and Tesla’s Elon Musk in 2023, but the fight was postponed due to Musk’s injury. With White now serving on Meta’s board, the tech giant’s leadership expands with further expertise in business, sports, and entertainment.
