Barakah’s four APR1400 reactors now supply 25% of the UAE’s electricity. Moreover, the plant boosted national baseload capacity and energy security. Over the past 12 months, Barakah delivered 40 TWh of clean electricity, reliably powering industries, homes, and technology sectors. In addition, Unit 1’s lifetime output now exceeds 120 TWh, which equals the annual power demand of New York City.

Clean power and emissions avoided

Consequently, the plant has played a leading role in decarbonizing the UAE power sector. Furthermore, Barakah prevents about 22.4 million tons of CO₂ emissions each year. As a result, more than 58 million metric tons of carbon have been avoided since Unit 1 started. In addition, Barakah now backs 85% of Abu Dhabi’s Clean Energy Certificates, helping firms certify low-carbon products.

Delivery efficiency, partnerships, and workforce

The Barakah build demonstrated faster, more efficient delivery, with a 40% reduction in cost, time, and labour between Units 1 and 4. Moreover, the site achieved an average delivery time of 7.9 years per unit, and construction began in July 2012. The plant was delivered in partnership with KEPCO and under FANR oversight, and it meets international IAEA and WANO standards.

H.E. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, said: “One year into full operations, Barakah Plant is delivering on its promise – clean, dependable power, around the clock. The achievement is due to a long-term vision, sustained investment, and a focus on high-quality execution at every stage.
