Apple to Launch AI-Powered Siri Chat Interface in iOS 27

Apple is preparing a major redesign of Siri and the iPhone Camera app with iOS 27. Moreover, the update could bring one of the biggest changes to the iPhone software experience in recent years.

The company is expected to preview iOS 27 during WWDC, which begins on June 8. In addition, a developer beta may arrive after the keynote, while the public rollout is expected in September with new iPhone hardware.

Camera app gets professional controls

The Camera app will become more customizable in iOS 27. For the first time, users will be able to choose and arrange controls at the top of the camera interface.

These controls, called “widgets,” may include flash, exposure, timer, depth of field, photo styles, and resolution. Additionally, users will be able to select them from a transparent tray that slides up from the bottom of the app.

The widgets will appear in different categories, including basic, manual, and settings. Meanwhile, photo and video modes will each support their own widget layouts.

However, Apple will keep the current default camera layout for regular users. Quick-tap buttons for flash, Live Photos, and Night Mode will remain available, while the advanced layout will target professional users.

The Camera app will also add a new “Siri” mode. This mode will bring Visual Intelligence directly into the main camera experience, making the AI-powered feature easier to access.

As a result, users may get new options such as scanning nutrition labels for the Health app. They may also scan business cards to add contact details quickly.

Siri shifts toward AI chat

Siri will receive a major overhaul in iOS 27. Instead of working only as a voice assistant, it will move closer to a chatbot-style AI agent.

Siri will reportedly appear in the Dynamic Island with a pill-shaped animation when activated. Moreover, users will see a “Search or Ask” prompt, allowing them to type or speak questions.

Swiping on a Siri response will open a conversation-style view similar to iMessage. In addition, the interface will show small information cards for details such as weather, notes, and appointments.

Apple also plans to launch a dedicated Siri app for the first time. Through this app, users will be able to view past chats, start new conversations, upload images and documents, and use text or voice input.

The Siri app will include a grid layout with summaries of earlier conversations. Therefore, users may be able to return to previous AI interactions more easily.

Apple is also expected to support third-party AI services through the search bar. Users may be able to choose tools such as ChatGPT or Gemini and set one as the default for Apple Intelligence features, including Writing Tools and Image Playground.

iOS 27 brings wider interface updates

Beyond Siri and Camera, iOS 27 will include broader visual refinements. The update will continue improving the Liquid Glass design style introduced in iOS 26.

The Weather app will gain a new “Conditions” panel. Meanwhile, Safari will receive a redesigned start page with tabs for favorites, bookmarks, Reading List, and history.

Apple Music and Podcasts will also return to a unified tab bar layout that combines search with navigation. Additionally, Apple is testing a new keyboard animation where keys slide up from the bottom of the screen.

Overall, iOS 27 appears focused on AI, customization, and cleaner interface design. As a result, the update could make Siri more useful while giving Camera users more control.
