Apple Hires Ex-Google Executive Ahead of Siri AI Overhaul

Apple Siri AI leadership change

Apple has appointed Lilian Rincon as its new vice president of product marketing for artificial intelligence. The former Google executive will report directly to marketing chief Greg “Joz” Joswiak.

Rincon brings nearly a decade of experience from Google, where she led product management for Google Shopping and previously served as director of product management for Google Assistant. In that role, she oversaw the voice-powered AI system used across more than 2.5 billion Android devices.

Before that, she held positions at Microsoft, where she worked on Skype and Bing. Additionally, she earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Simon Fraser University.

At Apple, Rincon will now lead product marketing across the company’s AI platforms, including Apple Intelligence and Siri. Meanwhile, the company prepares to introduce a major Siri overhaul later this year.

According to Reuters, the revamped Siri has been rebuilt using technology from Alphabet’s Gemini AI model.

Apple Accelerates AI Restructuring

This appointment marks another key move in Apple’s broader AI reorganization. In late 2025, the company announced the departure of John Giannandrea, its senior vice president of machine learning and AI strategy. After seven years in the role, he stepped down and transitioned into an advisory position ahead of retirement.

At the same time, Apple appointed Amar Subramanya as vice president of AI. He brings prior experience from both Google and Microsoft and now reports to software chief Craig Federighi.

As part of the restructuring, Apple redistributed Giannandrea’s responsibilities across several senior executives. Consequently, parts of the organization now fall under operations chief Sabih Khan and services head Eddy Cue.

Major Siri Update Expected Soon

Apple’s leadership changes come as the company prepares for what could be the most significant Siri update since its launch.

Earlier this week, reports indicated that Apple is testing a standalone Siri chatbot app, a redesigned interface integrated with the Dynamic Island, and an “Ask Siri” button embedded across its software.

Furthermore, the new Siri is expected to debut at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8 as part of iOS 27.

In addition, Apple plans to open Siri to rival AI assistants beyond its current ChatGPT integration, allowing competing services to connect directly with the platform.
