Alibaba Launches Qwen3.8 Max 2.4 Trillion-Parameter AI Model
Alibaba has introduced Qwen3.8-Max-Preview, a new flagship artificial intelligence model featuring 2.4 trillion parameters. The company describes it as one of its most advanced models and says it ranks just behind Anthropic’s Fable 5 among frontier AI systems. However, that performance claim has not yet been independently verified.
The preview version is now available through Alibaba’s Token Plan, Qoder, and QoderWork platforms. Meanwhile, Alibaba plans to release the model as an open-weight system, allowing developers to download, modify, and build applications with it in the future.
Qwen3.8-Max Targets Frontier AI Performance
Qwen3.8-Max supports multimodal workloads, enabling it to process text, images, videos, and documents within a single model. Therefore, developers can use it across a broader range of enterprise and creative applications. In addition, Alibaba says the model is continuously evolving as it prepares for a full release.
The company highlighted the model’s massive parameter count as a key factor behind its reasoning and knowledge capabilities. Furthermore, Alibaba positions the release as another step toward competing with leading global AI developers. Although the company claims the model trails only Anthropic’s Fable 5, benchmark results from independent organizations have not yet been published.
Alibaba has also introduced promotional pricing for the preview version, encouraging developers to evaluate the model before the complete open-weight release becomes available. Consequently, businesses can begin testing advanced AI capabilities without waiting for the final launch.

The launch arrives as China’s leading AI companies accelerate development of increasingly capable foundation models.
