Adobe Firefly Adds Precision AI Video Editing

Adobe Firefly AI video editor interface

Adobe has expanded its Firefly AI video generation app with new prompt-based editing tools and broader model support. Previously limited to a private beta, the Firefly video editor is now rolling out to all users, marking a shift toward more controlled and flexible AI video workflows.

Prompt-based, precise video edits

Previously, creators often needed to regenerate entire clips to fix small visual issues. Now, however, Firefly enables targeted, prompt-based edits that preserve the strongest parts of a video. As a result, users can adjust specific elements without starting over.

For example, creators can remove unwanted objects, swap backgrounds, or modify lighting and atmosphere using text instructions. Moreover, these refinements apply directly to existing footage, which significantly reduces trial and error. In addition, users can enhance clips further by adding sound effects or music, then continue editing inside Firefly or transfer projects to Adobe Premiere.

Improved camera motion control

Alongside precision edits, Firefly now offers greater control over camera movement. Users can upload a starting frame and pair it with a reference video that demonstrates the desired camera motion. Consequently, creators can maintain a strong original take while refining movement and pacing with fewer iterations.

This approach helps streamline production time while allowing a consistent visual style across scenes. Furthermore, combining motion references with text-based edits enables more predictable and repeatable creative outcomes.

Third-party AI models added

At the same time, Adobe has introduced support for external AI models within Firefly. These include Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2 and Topaz Astra, which expand Firefly’s creative and technical capabilities.

Notably, Topaz Astra focuses on upscaling low-resolution footage. Therefore, creators can sharpen older or lower-quality clips for modern platforms while continuing other tasks in parallel. This multi-model approach positions Firefly as a more flexible hub for AI-assisted video creation.

Overall, the latest Firefly updates move Adobe closer to practical, production-ready AI video tools that emphasize control, efficiency, and creative continuity.
