Adobe and Canva Launch Competing Agentic AI Design Tools

Both companies introduced agentic AI systems within hours of each other, signaling a shift in how design work gets done. Instead of manually navigating multiple tools, users can now give high-level instructions while AI handles execution across entire platforms. As a result, creative workflows become more streamlined and less dependent on technical expertise.

One system presents itself as a “creative agent” that unifies multiple applications through a conversational interface. It supports over 100 creative skills, so users can complete complex, multi-step tasks from a single prompt. For example, users may request photo retouching, video edits, or design animation, and the system coordinates everything automatically. Consequently, users spend less time switching between tools and more time focusing on ideas.

“Creators using Firefly AI Assistant function more as creative directors that set the vision, taste and direction while the AI agent executes,” Adobe said in its announcement.

Moreover, the assistant evolved from an earlier prototype and will soon enter public beta. However, pricing details remain unclear, which leaves questions about how it will fit into existing subscription models.

A New Approach to Accessible Design

Meanwhile, another platform introduced its AI 2.0 system during a major conference, emphasizing accessibility and automation. This update builds on four key elements: conversational design, agentic orchestration, layered object intelligence, and a Memory Library. Together, these features aim to simplify design while preserving customization.

Unlike many tools that generate static images, this system produces fully editable, layered designs. Therefore, users can adjust individual components without disrupting the entire composition. In addition, it integrates with tools like Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, Zoom, and HubSpot. Because of these connections, the AI can pull relevant context and generate content that aligns with existing workflows.

Furthermore, the system can assist with broader tasks, such as identifying trends, creating social media posts, and scheduling content. Still, it stops short of full automation, since it requires human review before publishing. This balance ensures efficiency while maintaining user control.

Shared Direction, Different Focus

Although both systems promote “agentic creativity,” they target different audiences. On one hand, one approach prioritizes depth and precision, appealing to professional creators who rely on advanced tools. On the other hand, the competing platform emphasizes speed and ease of use, making design more accessible to a wider audience.

As competition intensifies, both strategies reflect a broader industry shift toward AI-assisted creativity. Consequently, users increasingly act as creative directors, guiding AI rather than executing every detail themselves.
